What'll You Need

  • 1 cup of milk or water
  • 1 package of dry yeast (or 2½ teaspoons)
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all purpose flour

Directions

1. Begin by scalding milk in a glass container in the microwave for one minute.

2. Cool scalded milk for 1-2 minutes and then pour into a blender.

3. Once the milk has cooled to very warm, described above, sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let it become puffy, or”bloom”.   

4. Add the oil, egg, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract to the blender. Process for 20 seconds.

5. Place the flour in a large separate bowl. Make a well in the center of the bowl of flour, and pour the blender contents into the flour. Stir to incorporate all ingredients.

6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and a dish towel, letting the dough rise until doubled in size.

7. Once dough has risen, punch down the bread dough. 

8. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Using your hands, flatten dough into an 8 inch square. Flatten dough into an 8 inch square.

  1. Fold 1/3 of the dough over.
  1. Fold the remaining 1/3 over to form a loaf.

11. Place dough seem side down in a greased 10 inch loaf pan. Cover pan with plastic wrap and a dish towel, letting rise for approximately 1 hour, or until doubled in size. 

12. While the bread is rising in the pan, preheat the oven to 375°. 

13. Once yeast bread has risen, place in oven and bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown. 

14. Remove bread from oven to cool on a wire rack. Brush top of loaf with melted butter.

15. Remove bread from the loaf pan once it is warm to the touch.
